This Virus has Finally Hit Very Close to Home…….

As I began my new job, I was instructed to start working on campus, which to be honest was a relief as working from home, or should I say being micromanaged from home was getting to be a real chore.  I was also getting really tired of having to check in and out for every fucking thing I did, including asking to have time to use the bathroom.  Yes you heard that right, I had to let my former supervisor when I was leaving my “post” to use the bathroom.  Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I wrote that one of my maternal aunts had come down with the virus, she has underlying conditions such as diabetes and repertory issues.  She came through okay, but she told me she wouldn’t wish this virus on anyone, not even her worst enemy.  But my aunts a good person so she thinks like that and I’m glad she considers those types of things.

On Friday, my youngest son told me he was going to go get tested because he said he lost his sense of taste and smell and he said he thought it might be allergies.  He does get them and bad.  At the beginning of every spring and summer he suffers through sneezing, runny nose etc.

I was scared because I didn’t want it to be true, so I reassured him that it was allergies but it was better to be safe than sorry.  This morning he called me because his PCP called to tell him his test came back positive.  My youngest and middle sons don’t live with me, and I only see them once a week.  But this shit has me scared out of my mind because just last week someone here in El Paso died, a young man who was only 31 died of this goddamned virus. Now, I don’t know if this young man had any underlying conditions that caused his demise or if the virus just ravaged his body to the point of death.

My son is 25, and has no underlying conditions, but that does not make this any easier to take in.  As a mother I’m fucking worried sick because he’s my son, he’s my baby and there is nothing worse than seeing your child sick with something the medical community hasn’t found a vaccine for as of yet.  He tells me not to worry because the only symptom he has is loss of taste and smell, but that doesn’t reassure me whatsoever.  He works facilities services at my old university and he says he doesn’t know where he might have come into contact with this virus.  He said that his department have taken every precaution to stay safe, wearing the light hazmat suits, masks, gloves and protective eye wear.  He washes his hands so often he says that he now carries lotion in his car, backpack and keeps it in his desk and locker at work.  He hasn’t even gone to the gym because he’s not entirely sure they are safe to go back so he’s been working out from home.  And yet he still got sick and he nor I know how this happened.

Stay safe everyone, and WEAR YOUR MASK!! This is one angry and worried Huntress, over and out!

My life has been a lot like the movie Bridget Jones Diary (the Hispanic version) constant comedic struggles and life lessons learned by way of personal experience. I've survived divorce and online dating debacles, so tag along for the ride and lets laugh together.

  1. So very sorry to hear this. It’s such a nasty contagious virus… but he’s young and strong and will get through it. The vast majority of people do, and while I understand how terrified you must be… if he’s not showing any other symptoms that’s a good sign. Keep us posted and please know that you are both in my thoughts.

  2. OMG!! I understand your worry, but he’s strong – this I’m sure of because YOU are his mother – and he will get through it! That is definitely too close to home though. I worry about my son, also. He delivers water (local company) to businesses and residents, installs water coolers, to places where it’s rare to see someone wearing a mask. Keep me posted and if you need to chat, you know where I am. I will keep your son in my thoughts and prayers, my friend. ❤

    1. Thank you my friend, I so appreciate you and your prayers. I will keep you posted, but as of now he’s okay only loss of taste and smell. But now he’s in self-isolation for the next 14 days and has seen fit to text me to let me know what he wants me to drop off since I offered. Three bags of Hot Cheetos, four Gatorade’s, some mineral water and if I could, a meat lovers pizza from Pizza Hut. So I’m thinking he’s going to be okay, lmao.

      1. As long as the appetite is there, he’ll be fine!! Hot Cheetos though? I’ve read that the seasoning on those has caused a great many people severe intestinal issues. Mmmmm….pizza. I’m on Nutrisystem again, so a real pizza sounds absolutely delectable!! And a mudlside… Cheers. 😉

  3. As a parent, I understand how you feel. Even though people in that demographic seem mostly unaffected, I would still be very worried if one of my children had it. I hope it all works out well.

  4. My first reaction is get a second test. An ENTIRE nursing home and staff tested positive and then re-tested and all were negative. Obviously the tests are not great. I lost my sense of taste and smell before the COVID was announced. I also had back pain and just felt virusy. I had been on an airplane right before that. I have never lost my sense of taste in my life. I’m pretty sure I had it and also my sister in Utah had it but tested negative. I’ll be praying that your son’s case is mild like mine was, if he does have it.

  5. Oh, wow! I’m glad your son is young and healthy if he has to have this stupid, damned virus! Sending healing hugs your way! I guess he’s in quarantine for the next couple of weeks, huh? Please keep us informed as he progresses. Tell him he’s got a whole posse of people cheering him on. Hang in there, my friend! Mona

  6. I’m so sorry to hear this. We are in New Zealand where the country went into lockdown hard, fast and early. We only have 4 active cases (in a population of 4.5 million) which have been from NZers returning from overseas, so they are in isolation. At the moment we have no community transmission, so things are back to normal except for international travel. I have friends in the USA and it is so difficult watching ALL the things that are going on over there. My prayers are with you and your son. Stay strong. Look after yourself and your sanity. You can handle this! ❤❤

      1. We went into SERIOUS lockdown very early (end of March). Not the lockdown you guys are having. Basically stay at home except to get essentials, and that had to be local. So we could only go to local supermarket and pharmacy, basically. The police were on the roads stopping people outside their area (like half an hours drive was too far). You were not allowed to travel to exercise. You had to work from home. Most businesses were shut, unless they were supplying supermarkets or medical things. We were not allowed to even go for a swim at the beach, in case we needed emergency services. They set up a hotline and website to report people breaching lockdown rules, and the website crashed form all the activity. But our government also provided businesses with subsidies to keep them afloat and so they could pay employees 80% of their wage during lockdown. We worked hard as a nation. It’s so sad that your government did not provide financial support to allow a REAL lockdown there.

      2. I agree, but one must remember the “leader” we currently have is not leading, nor governing or doing anything for this county’s people, only self serving….but I’ll stop there, lol.

  7. I’m so sorry to hear this news—I know how terrifying it can be when your child is going through something awful. I hope your next blog post will be informing us that he’s fully recovered. In the meantime, sending positive thoughts and vibes your way! 💕

  8. I’m very sorry to hear this, like so many others, and I’m hoping your son comes through it okay. Yes, this is a very scary and terrible virus, but there are a lot of people who’ve completely recovered, and his odds are good.
I’ll be sitting here with my fingers crossed hoping for happy updates, but only when you’re ready to share. And I don’t need to know when you’re going to the bathroom.

  9. Of course you’re worried, that’s what mamas do. He’ll be okay. The younger they are, the easier they pull through. But I know you’re keeping an eye on him, and you’ll make sure he gets to the hospital immediately if anything seems out of sorts.

  10. I’m late to this post, but I hope by now that he’s OK and on the road to recovery. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this–I know how I’d feel if it was my daughter. Hugs to you:-)

  11. I hate that your life was touched by this – I’m just now reading about it! I’m hoping the boy is all better now – I haven’t gotten to read further yet. We actually had an appointment at Discount Tire in EP a couple weeks ago… got there at 11 a.m. for the appointment, and the whole place was shut down. Called another that got us in for our tires, and they said that an employee had a family member test positive and so they shut the whole place down in 10 minutes. Imagine if they did that every time someone sneezed?! I won’t get started on this subject (one of the reasons I’ve been staying off the world wide webs as much as possible) but I hate masks, think they’re filthy and ridiculous, and wash my hands a little more than normal now but not much. And I never stopped hugging my friends… none of us have had any illness other than the normal spring allergies sneeze. And I’m in the public, handling money and talking with people a LOT. Honestly – life is 100% fatal and I believe when it’s my time, it’s my time. However, as a mother, I know it was horrifying and wish I could give you a big hug!!! ❤
