Sunshine Blogger Award Nomination

It seems someone thought I was “sunshiney” enough to nominate me for the Sunshine Blogger Award, a fellow Texan and all around funny and sunny writer at Nowhere Tribune.

Rules:

Thank the Blogger that nominated you.

Answer the questions.

Nominate new blogs to receive the award and write them or in this case ask them to list some random facts about themselves.

List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post/or blog.

Notify the nominees about it by commenting on their blog post.

Here I go, thank you to the Nowhere Tribune for this nomination, even though I’m far from Sun-shiney.Β  But he did say, and I quote I’m cool, offensive and I’m from Texas!

So instead of the list of obligatory questions he thought he’d suggest that I just give five or ten random, little known facts about myself.Β  So here I go….

  1. I once tried out for a female roller derby team (I didn’t make it, apparently I was too violent for the sport).
  2. I use to be a born again Christian, who use to be a lapsed Catholic.
  3. I had a tattoo on my left ankle, and I had it removed which was way more expensive than the tattoo cost.
  4. I own 52 pairs of shoes (I use to have 74 but I got rid of some)
  5. I use to own a Pearl White 1969 Camaro with a 427 Chevy big block engine and a Muncie 4 speed transmission and raced it at the local drag strip.

So, there you go, five random facts about myself.Β  Here are my nominees

Evil Squirrel’s Nest

Freethinkers Anonymous

The Captains Speech

Hopelessy Heather

Being Aunt Debbie

So, I’m going to ask what Nowhere Tribune did and ask that instead of the questions, you give the five to ten random facts about yourself.

My life has been a lot like the movie Bridget Jones Diary (the Hispanic version) constant comedic struggles and life lessons learned by way of personal experience. I've survived divorce and online dating debacles, so tag along for the ride and lets laugh together.

  1. Cool and offensive beats sunshiney any day.
But too violent for roller derby? Damn… exactly how violent do you have to be to be kicked off for that!
    52 pairs of shoes?
    You are my soul sister…

    1. *ahem* ex-Catholic and ex-tattooed, and sadly ex-car too, lol. I had that thing removed, and not only was it more expensive to remove, it was way more painful during the removal. I had to have three different sessions to have it all gone. That’s why no one knows, because I don’t even have a scar left.

    1. Thank you Mona, of course. It wasa rose with barbed wire around it. I, along with two of my ex-best friends got the same one. When I decided to cut them out of my life, I got rid of it.

  2. I find it hilarious that roller derby was too tame for you! Perhaps bring a mercenary would be more up your alley? πŸ˜‰

    Thank you for the nom!!

    Five random facts about me:

    1. The THX tone makes me cry in theaters.

    2. I earned an all expense paid trip to Vegas to participate in a national bowling tournament in 2013.

    3. When I was a sophomore in HS, I corrected my geometry teacher while he was incorrectly teaching a theorem. He sarcastically asked if I’d like to teach the class. I told him I would, then did. My classmates have never forgotten it.

    4. I scored a perfect audition two years in a row as a floutist in my HS wind ensemble.

    5. I love playing pool (own several cue sticks), swing/salsa dancing, singing karaoke, and rock climbing.

    1. My gosh Heather, you are a multitalented woman! You bowl, you play the flute, you play billiards AND you made a teacher cry! You didn’t say you did, but I’m sure he went home and cried the fetal position and was scared to back to work the next day, lol. I knew we clicked for more than just fashion reasons, lmao.

      1. I doubt he cried, I’m sure he was being sarcastic and was shocked when I called his bluff. I did it because I was tutoring a good chunk of the class (football and basketball players mostly) and didn’t want them to be confused by learning it wrong. It still didn’t stop me from getting an A+ in that class.

  3. Why does the roller derby thing not surprise me? πŸ˜‰ Yes, that confirms just how sunshiny you are 😳 You Texans are a bit crazy, I suspect πŸ˜‰

    1. Well, not any more crazy than you wild Australians, lol. I think we have the same mindset at time. We both live in a large, at times desolate untamed state, and WE are the ones that make it civil, lol. Just to clarify, I wasn’t the only one who didn’t make it onto the roller derby team. It was me and two others, we were older than those already on the team. Those girls were in their late twenties and thirties. The three of us were much to β€œseasoned” for them, lol. 😎

      1. “Seasoned”? Okaaaay!?!? πŸ€” Close guess, but I’m actually from New Zealand, aka Middle Earth πŸ˜€ We’re a bit more like hobbits than Crocodile Dundee, but yes, I can see a strong similarity between the Ozzie outback and Texas πŸ˜€

  4. Ha! I am about as sunshiny as a Soundgarden sun. Thank you for the nod, though. I’m one of those crotchety old bloggers who’s been around the WP block long enough to remember the time when these blogger awards were more persistently passed around than VD, so unless the premise is unique (This one’s been around forevuh and evuh), I usually don’t follow up on them anymore. However, because I really like you (And will now always think of you as the Roller Derby Queen), I’ll give you five random facts about myself here….

    1. I share a birthday with one of my younger sisters. We were born on the same date and the same day of the week, five years apart.

    2. I was a finalist on an episode of Regis-era Who Wants To Be A Millionaire back in 2001. I missed both of the fastest finger questions and didn’t get in the hot seat. I did a (33 part!) blog series on that experience a few years ago, it was one of my more popular features I ever did at The Nest.

    3. I have never drank any kind of alcoholic beverage. I’m pretty anti-YOLO, so I have a lot of never-evers, but that’s the one that pretty much everyone I’ve ever told it to thinks I have to be lying about.

    4. I used to put Cheez Its in the oven and bake them until they were brown because they tasted better that way. Now you can buy them like that in the box because I’m apparently not the only freak who likes things burnt.

    5. I learned how to roller skate when I was a kid, but other than coasting or grabbing onto something, I never learned how to stop…

    1. Haha! The Cheese It thing love it. I do the same but with Triscuits, there’s just something about the cracker being β€œextra” toasty, am I right? Sharing a birthday with a sibling, not sure how I feel about that. I have a cousin who was born on Mother’s Day, so instead of saying happy birthday, we tell him Happy Mother’s Day, he hates it to this day, lol. You were almost a millionaire Evil, how absolutely cool!

  5. Hey, cool and offensive has a way of brightening everyone’s day, plus Texas is a pretty sunshiney state. And your roller derby experience proves that you shouldn’t mess with Texas. Or with you. I’m pretty sure you could single-handedly take on Iowa.
Anyway thank you so much for the nomination. Now I need to come up with five random facts about myself which shouldn’t be hard. Pretty much everything about me is random.

    1. Hi Christopher, I don’t know about taking on Iowa by myself, Rhode Island maybe, lol. I’m sure it won’t be hard to think up those random facts, you are a pretty interesting guy. πŸ˜‰

    1. It was that I was a bit more aggressive, I didn’t make it to the 2nd round. I got a text telling me I didn’t make the cut because I hadn’t toned it down. I’m thinking it’s fucking roller derby for fucks sake, it’s supposed to be a tad violent! But it was during the time I had just left Lestat and had a lot of pent up anger, lol. πŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž

      1. Yes he did somewhat, a topical numbing agent but it would wear off after the first two passes with the laser. Mind you this was back in 2002, this procedure has improved a lot since then. And six weeks prior I had to use a fading cream to help it along before I went in for the laser treatment. In total, it took about a year for the treatment every three weeks, three sessions total and for it to heal completely. Yeah, never doing that again, the tattoo I mean, lol.
